Today in the Garden

This morning in the backyard habitat I saw a frog, an Anna's hummingbird, the red-tailed hawk, and the bush-tits paid us a visit, as well! Not to mention the usual mourning doves, red-winged blackbirds, goldfinches and house finches. I only caught a glimpse of the hawk and the hummingbird. We have been visited this spring by both Anna's and rufous hummingbirds. Yesterday I bought a second hummingbird feeder for the back of the garden, right outside our bedroom window. That's because in the morning I saw the Anna's feeding from the native bleeding hearts in that corner! It was thrilling. That's where I saw the frog this morning. Usually we see the frogs in or right by the pond, but this frog was in the area - across the path - where the bleeding hearts are. So that's quite an active little spot. We also have Vancouveria, false lily-of-the-valley, wild ginger and more planted there. Close by are trilliums and fawn lilies.
